History of the CCAC

It Started with a Vision: Built by a Community.

The City County Athletic Complex, Inc. (CCAC) spans over 65+ acres and officially opened its doors at its current location on May 2, 1994. Before its development, most recreational activities in Warsaw, Indiana, were centered in downtown at Center Lake Park. However, with the expansion of Zimmer Headquarters, then-Mayor Jeff Plank recognized the need to improve Center Lake Park, now known as Central Park, while also identifying the limitations of the downtown area in accommodating quality athletic facilities. Understanding the growing recreational and economic demands of the community, Mayor Plank proposed the development of the CCAC. The vision was not only to create a dedicated space for athletic events and community gatherings but also to establish a venue that would serve as a catalyst for economic development within Kosciusko County.

FROM THEN TO NOW: SMALL-TOWN ROOTS, NATIONAL IMPACT.

Funding for the CCAC was a community-wide effort. Numerous local businesses contributed, supported by city and county governments and several grants. The facility was founded as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization and continues to operate under that structure today. It still relies on ongoing support from the Kosciusko County Convention, Visitor & Recreation Commission.

Importantly, all revenue generated by the CCAC is reinvested into its daily operations and continuous improvement, ensuring the facility remains a valuable asset for both residents and visitors alike.

In its inaugural year, the CCAC began hosting sanctioned leagues and tournaments through the National Softball Association (NSA). Over the years, it has grown into one of the premier athletic facilities in the United States, regularly hosting national tournaments for men’s, women’s, and youth softball events. In recognition of its excellence, the CCAC became the first Indiana park to be inducted into the NSA National Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. The CCAC has also received numerous NSA National Park of the Year Awards.

Beyond softball, the CCAC supports a wide range of community sports by leasing its fields to independent organizations, including KCSL Soccer, Wave Travel Soccer, Hispanic Soccer, and NISL Soccer, as well as to numerous individual teams and event organizers. Its continued evolution has made it a cornerstone of recreational and economic vitality in the region.
